Opening walls for a remodel
Only the sections your plan removes need to come out. We sample the compound and any texture on those walls, then cut out the board inside the sealed area.

Joint compound, the mud that covers drywall seams and screw holes, is on MDH’s list of materials that can contain asbestos, as is plaster. If yours tests positive, sanding, cutting or tearing out the wall can put fibers in the air. We remove the affected board under containment so your remodel can carry on.
We open walls for remodels in Eagan houses and townhomes, and in Inver Grove Heights and West St. Paul as well.

Textured walls and old patches may use a different compound than the seams, so each gets a sample of its own.
Plaster walls are on MDH’s list as well. If your home has them, they are sampled the same way before anyone opens them.
For a full gut, the room is emptied, sealed and kept under negative air while the walls and ceiling come down wet.
MDH describes what a homeowner should expect to see on a licensed residential job.
A clear plastic enclosure should surround the area being opened, with a HEPA negative air machine running so dust is pulled away from the rest of your home.
Look for a decontamination unit with three chambers and a shower, set up at the entrance to the work area.
Inside, the crew should be using airless sprayers to keep material wet, sealed bags for the waste and air sample pumps running throughout.

When the ceiling above those walls has texture as well, popcorn ceiling removal covers it, and our main page has everything else.
