Floor Tile and Sheet Vinyl Removal in Eagan

Typical cost in Eagan

  • One bathroom or laundry floor, about 50 to 100 sq ft$1,150 – $2,800+
  • One kitchen or large room, about 150 to 300 sq ft$1,700 – $4,800+
  • Several rooms or a basement, about 500 to 1,000 sq ft$3,800 – $11,500+

An older floor can carry asbestos in up to three layers, the vinyl tile, any sheet vinyl with a paper or felt backing, and the black glue beneath. Each one is sampled. Whatever comes back positive, we lift by hand and keep damp, bagging it as we go, until the subfloor is bare.

Kitchens, entries, laundry rooms and lower-level floors all come up the same careful way, in Eagan and in Inver Grove Heights and West St. Paul.

Flooring jobs

Vinyl tile

Our crew takes tile up with hand tools, one whole piece at a time. Grinding, sanding or chipping would crack it into small bits, and that debris counts as regulated material, so none of those tools are used.

Tile, glue and the 2021 rule

Tile and glue are tested apart, since one result never speaks for the other. In one- to four-unit homes, floor tile and sheeting lost their exemption on July 1, 2021.

Sheet flooring

Old linoleum sounds harmless, yet MPCA considers its paper backing friable in most cases. That backing never gets a chance to dry out on our jobs, from the first knife cut to the sealed bag.

Floors that can stay

Sound flooring may simply be covered, MDH says. Damage changes that, since broken or crumbling flooring gives off fibers.

Planning a floor job

A floor job stays short when the room is ready and we know what sits under the top layer, so a few things help before we come.

Clearing the room

Appliances, furniture and rugs go out, and we tape plastic over walls and openings.

Layered floors

Newer flooring is sometimes laid right over old tile. If you know that, tell us, or lift a corner inside a closet to take a look.

After removal

With the old layers gone, the bare subfloor is easy to read. Soft boards and water marks get pointed out to your installer, who can fix them before the new floor goes in.
